Windows event-log analysis and detection workflows. Record the program version, rule set, profile, input channels, and parsing errors as part of any relied-upon result.
Does this rule match identify suspicious behavior, or merely a pattern worth checking?
A detection row is the result of a rule applied to collected fields. It does not prove compromise, intent, or coverage of events that were not collected. A legitimate administrative action can satisfy a pattern, while a relevant action may not generate a matching event under different audit settings.
Preserve a reproducible analysis
Retain native logs, the precise rules and configuration, tool output, error messages, and collection scope. Preserve the record identifiers needed to find the underlying events. Do not replace original event logs with an enriched detection CSV.
A useful validation question
Run known positive and negative records through the specific rule configuration. Check field mappings and version differences. Compare a matched row with the native event and assess whether multiple detections refer to one event rather than independent corroboration.
