Review the smallest testable claim first. “The record contains this account identifier” and “this person performed the action” require different evidence. A review should make that extra reasoning visible rather than accepting the stronger statement because a tool produced a confident label.
Trace the observation
Find the native record, image offset, file path, or source export that supports the statement. Identify how it was acquired and which material was outside the collection. Check whether a screenshot or rendered report omitted context available in the underlying record. Distinguish an original item from a derivative prepared by another tool.
Trace the method
Record the tool version, parser or plugin, configuration, and relevant platform. Ask whether a validation exercise actually covered the feature used in the conclusion. A generally respected product may still have a limitation on an unfamiliar format. The NIST CFTT program is a resource for structured tool tests, not a certification of every result produced by every version.
Test the inference
Ask what ordinary behavior could produce the same observation, what independent source supports it, and what contrary observation would weaken it. An account may be automated or compromised. A missing artifact may reflect retention or collection scope. The reviewer should be able to explain why a preferred interpretation is stronger than an alternative.
Make uncertainty usable
Replace an unsupported categorical statement with the observed fact, the reasoning, and the unresolved limitation. Keep a record of changes requested and the response. If the underlying input cannot be accessed, say that the review is limited to the supplied report and cannot independently verify the extraction.
